Dear Friends,

We are happy to announce the launch of Functional Medicine (or Integrative Care) at AMC Tbilisi.

Functional Medicine addresses the underlying root causes of disease, using a systems-oriented approach and engaging both patient and practitioner in a therapeutic partnership. Using a holistic concept, it views the body as one integrated system, not a collection of independent organs divided up by medical specialties. Functional medicine focuses on long-term health solutions, not quick prescription drug fixes.

Why Do we need Functional Medicine?

Our society is experiencing a sharp increase in the number of people who suffer from complex and chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, heart disease, cancer, mental illness, and autoimmune conditions. Functional Medicine examines the causes of these diseases, seeking chronic wellness, not illness. It explores our diet and nutrient absorption, our vast microbiome, and the gut-brain connection.

Who Should Consider the Functional Medicine?

Certain conditions are especially well-suited to a Functional Care approach, including the following:

•    Chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia
•    Digestive problems
•    Autoimmune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, Hashimoto thyroiditis)
•    Hormonal imbalances (PMS, menopause)
•    Diabetes
•    Obesity, and many others

Dr. Elena Steinheim is Your Functional Medicine Doctor. Dr. Steinheim first obtained her Medical Degree from J.W. Goethe University, in Frankfurt, Germany. She is certified as a Functional Medicine Practitioner with over 15 years of physician experience. She uses functional medicine to find answers to the cause of your illness and the nutritional and biochemical imbalances that may be making you feel ill.

Functional medicine is personalized medicine that explores root causes of disease instead of treating symptoms. With specific blood tests and diagnostics, Dr. Steinheim will search for underlying triggers that are contributing to your illness and tailor intervention to your specific needs as an individual, to restore balance and health.

Think You Have COVID-19? We Are Testing.

How does it work?

  • Call your local AMC and consult with one of our physicians. The care provider will determine which diagnostic fits best for you – COVID-19 PCR or Antibody testing.
  • Request an appointment for COVID-19 testing either in clinic or at your place.
  • Results for PCR testing may take up to 24 hours to process while results for Antibody testing are ready within 15 minutes.

How PCR and Antibody Testing differ from each other?

  • The PCR test takes a swab from the back of the nose and throat and looks for the presence of the virus itself.
  • The Antibody testing looks at a blood sample for antibodies generated in the body in response to the virus, showing whether or not the person tested has been exposed to it in the past.
Whether you have detected COVID-19 symptoms, require an Official COVID-19 Certificate for traveling purposes or if you’re wondering if you’ve previously had coronavirus — contact AMC Tbilisi.
*During busy lab times, PCR Testing may take up to 48 hours.
